My first artistic attempt in creating the human figure was around the age of 2 years old when I cut out a newspaper in the shape of a person, then according to my mother I borrowed her cigarette and burned two holes where the eye should have been on the face. This was her earliest recollection of my interest in Art. From kindergarten thru grade school and beyond, I distinctly remember enjoying all my art classes.
I won an Art Scholarship in Painting and Fine Arts in 1971 in a nationwide search 'Draw-me Art Contest' sponsored by Art Instruction Schools, Minneapolis, Minnesota. I also studied Art in Elementary, junior high and high school and a minor in College. I have won numerous awards in local and International Art Competitions. I was a runner-up in 'Paint-a-T-Shirt' design competition and the winning designs was published in 'Woman's World' magazine, July 1986.
I'm free-lance artist painting portraits since 1971. I’m dedicated to fostering and enhancing an understanding of practice, techniques, aesthetics and applications of traditional fine art portraiture and figurative arts. My other endeavor is painting still life’s, landscapes, seascapes, nudes, animals & pet portraits. My main medium is Oil, but I can also work in Acrylic, pen & ink, pastel, charcoal, pencil & colored pencil. I also enjoyed linoleum block carving (see 'Pintails on Christmas Snow' below. In my portraits, I try to paint in the old tradition of classical realism inspired by the study of the old masters.
